John offers freelance workshops to schools and youth groups, and as part of this work he leads Brentwood Council’s
Music Bus, which is an additional resource to schools, clubs and associations within the Borough of Brentwood.
Using music, sound, storytelling and recording, through fun workshops he develops young people’s awareness of how music can be used to express themselves and how it can enhance storytelling or bring to life, experiences in their lives.
The workshops are tailored to the age of the children, who are encouraged to play a variety of musical instruments,
sing and use spoken word to create mood and change the impact of either an existing story or one that is created and developed with the workshop leaders.
He has worked with teenagers in a high security home where they worked on very diverse projects such as Drum ‘n Bass, Reggae song and reflective song of friendship.
These sessions were very emotive and exceptionally rewarding for all involved.
At the end of each workshop, a recording of the participant’s performance will have been made that is then put onto a
CD for each performer.
